Obasanjo, A Troublesome Student At National Open University; Says Vice Chancellor
“When Obasanjo became a student of the institution, he thought that it was an easy thing to do. When he was given all the courses, he realised it wasn’t easy and so he had to defer his admission. He said ‘I would not take part in this until I finished my tenure as President’. So he never studied while he was the President until he completed his tenure, then he started the course.
“He did a Post Graduate Diploma in Christian Theology. He was a very troublesome student because he will not start calling until 12 mid night and keep you online until about 2.00a.m. Every time he gives us trouble, we pray that he graduates…
“[At last] he did and his certificate was valid.”
The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, on Monday gave a glimpse into former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s time as a student of the institution.
He said in the course of his study, Obasanjo told him: “I want to do the same thing others are doing.”
Prof. Tenebe, who commended Obasanjo for giving a new lease of life to NOUN during his administration in 2002, stated that: “President Obasanjo, when he became a student which he did by example, resuscitated the university…. The university was in dormancy until when civilian rule under Obasanjo came on board and re-cooperated the university in 2002 while in 2003, we started our academic programmes.
Speaking on whether Obasanjo influenced his good result in any way, Prof. Tenebe said:
“Obasanjo was a very brilliant student and I can tell you there were lots of controversies when his papers were being marked. I won’t disclose the secret of how our papers are marked but it is marked from Port Harcourt to Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri and the markers will never know whose paper they are marking. So the old man is intelligent, his certificate is valid and was done according to rules and regulations of the Nigerian University Commission.”

Wande Coal leaves Mavin Records + New Single “Kilaju”
Interesting words reaching us are that Wande Coal has stopped working with Mavin Records – but still preserves DJ Spinall as his official DJ.
Although our source claims Wande Coal was never signed to Mavin Records – on paper and he was only working hand-in-hand with the Don Jazzy led record label. This tie is said to have been ended and Wande Coal has fully-floated his record label Black Diamond Entertainment.
This move was made obvious by his latest single Kilaju which dropped yesterday.
….with Don Jazzy keeping mute about the song, Wande Coal was made to do all the online promotion himself with no support from the entire Mavin Records gang including their online PRs.
The reason Wande Coal did not sign with Mavin on launch was that he strongly believes Mavin Records cannot move his career to the next level and disagreement over sharing of monies with Wande not willing to shift ground on 10% with Mavin asking for 20%. Wande is also still working with his manager, Nana.
On another note, have you heard Wande Coal mention the word Mavin before?

[Listen]: Nicki Minaj’s Shocked Response To DJ Khaled’s Proposal
Four days after DJ Khaled proposed to Nicki Minaj in a video for MTV News, the ‘Starships’ rapper finally responded. Did she say yes? Did she say no? Keep reading to find out!
DJ Khaled laid his heart on the line on July 25, proposing to Nicki Minaj in an amazing, heartfelt video for MTV News. Nicki, 30, finally responded with an answer during an interview with Hot 97′s Funkmaster Flex on July 29.
Nicki Minaj Responds To DJ Khaled’s Marriage Proposal
Like many fans, Nicki didn’t take DJ Khaled’s proposal too seriously.
I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world ’cause Khaled is a master at what he does.
Calling Khaled, 37, a master seems appropriate because the rapper managed to promote his upcoming album Suffering From Success during the proposal. In the video, the rapper mentioned how he and Nicki both are “suffering from success.” (Creative, no?)
It was just another way for him to kinda give the world a glimpse on the feeling of this record. Nobody in my real life took it seriously. Everybody just hit me like, ‘LOL. Yo, Khaled is crazy.’
Nicki Minaj: DJ Khaled Was Kidding
And to set the record straight, Nicki shot down any chance of a potential engagement between her and DJ Khaled. She said:
Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, ya’ll. Please let it go. He was kidding. He’s not attracted to me, he doesn’t like me. We’re brother and sister.
What do YOU think? Did you think Khaled’s proposal was a joke? Do you feel duped?

Nigerians Among 31 Migrants Drowned While Crossing To Italy
Italian media reported today that Nigerian migrants were among several dozen people who drowned weekend off the coast of Libya, while attempting to cross into Italy.
Thirty one migrants, including nine women, drowned off the coast of Libya during an attempted crossing to Italy according to survivors who managed to complete the journey, Italian media reported Sunday.
A dinghy carrying 53 migrants capsized on Friday evening, and witnesses said 31 of those who had been thrown off it drowned in the accident.
The twenty two survivors, who come from Nigeria, Gambia, Benin and Senegal, said the dinghy had capsized after three days at sea. They were rescued by a passing merchant ship and taken to Lampedusa island, the reports said.
As the number of boat immigrants attempting the crossing soars in the good weather, rescuers saved another 450 people trying to reach Italy on Friday and Saturday, increasing tensions at the already crowded refugee centre on the island.
Another 92 migrants including 16 women were rescued Sunday morning in the Strait of Sicily after their boat got into difficulty.
Since 1999, more than 200,000 people have arrived on Lampedusa which is closer to North Africa than Italy making it, along with the Greece-Turkey border, one of the biggest gateways for undocumented migrants and refugees into the European Union.
In nearby Malta, 112 migrants were saved from their drifting dinghy overnight Saturday in a 13 hour operation during which eight of those rescued were airlifted to hospital by helicopter for urgent medical attention.
That group which included 20 women and four children was suffering from exhaustion, dehydration and sun stroke, a Maltese army spokesman told AFP.
The latest arrivals bring the number of migrants to land on Malta in July to 880 an all time record for a month while 1,200 people in total have landed on the island so far this year.
