Nigerians Top Cyber Crimes Global Chart, Says NSA Dasuki

Nigerians are among the leading cybercrimes perpetrators in the world, National Security Adviser retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki has said.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja at one day public key infrastructure blueprint for Nigeria workshop, Dasuki said cyber crimes perpetrated by Nigerians is damaging the image and economy of the country.
Dasuki, who was represented by the director of communications at NSA office, Ambassador Haruna Mohammed said Nigerian cyber space was being compromised posing serious concern from all IT stakeholders.
He said this has necessitated the federal government, through the office of the National Security Adviser, to initiate some strong measures to secure computer system and networks and protect all critical information infrastructures which have impact on our economic development and collective security as a nation.
He said some of these measures include establishment of a fully functional National Digital Forensic Laboratory in the office of the NSA.
He said the lab would avail the law enforcement and security agencies a platform for detailed investigation of cyber crimes in the country.
He said a National Computer Emergency Response Team Centre for the monitoring, protection, response and analysis of all activities in the Nigerian cyber space has been established.
Earlier, the Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Prof Cleopas Angaye said with rate of uncontrolled infiltration and proliferation in the use of cyberspace, the need to develop a sustainable and secure platform for cyber accessibility cannot be over emphasized.
